If you’ve ever dreamt of living in Middle Earth, your geekiest dream may soon come true.

The company Green Magic Homes has developed tiny prefabricated houses that look exactly like Hobbit holes. Perhaps the best part? The 400-square-foot homes can be assembled by three people in about three days time!

Inhabitat reports that the eco-friendly abodes are designed to exist under a layer of soil and turf and can even produce food if you’re ambitious enough to garden some veggies on the roof.

Each home is composed of prefabricated vaulted panels manufactured with composite laminate materials, confined by walls in reinforced soil. The structure is easy to assemble and features perforated flaps in order to screw and seal the components together.

Cozy during the winter and resourceful in the summer, this is the kind of living space many can get excited about.

And get this: If you’ve been envisioning your Hobbit home for a while now, Green Magic Homes will actually construct it as their modular system offers endless possibilities of design.

You don’t have to a Tolkien fan to appreciate this creative eco-friendly offering. Scroll through some of the photos below and visit the company’s website to learn more!

I really like this nature bonding metamorphosis. Putting a home “into” nature instead of destroying nature to place a new home. And I guess, the ground around and on the houses are quiet a good isolation. Pretty nice idea. But what about the material? Is it flammable? What about installing closets or mounting pictures on the wall? How thick are those walls? Can I put a screw in it without leaking when it rains?
One negativity I see are the curved walls. Impossible to get high wardrobes to the wall. Another point that bothers me is, if the walls are made of some kind of plastic… what about air moisture? I don’t want my new home to become a flowstone cave. So what happen to the walls if I heat up the room?
How much weight does the roof carry? Are you able to lay slabs on it to build a terrace and sit on it with some people? Is it possible to mount a fireplace and a chimney to heat the place?
How big – in squaremeters – are those houses anyway?
I would like to know much more about this green magic homes.

Hi Michael. Many of those questions are answered on their product FAQ at this link. The load looks like 200 kilograms per square meter. The internal moisture would probably be an issue in many place. I’m in Colorado in an arid mountainous region, and the average humidity is about 12-16% in my house, so my problem would be to bring moisture in. This looks like a fairly new approach that still has some issues to be worked through, but I think it’s a great idea. I’d love to stay in one for a week to see how it passes the ‘livability’ test.

Better than raping the land just to build one house.
