After working for over five years Directing and Producing “Unacceptable Levels” I thought I wouldn’t be up for another film about this subject anymore. It’s not that it doesn’t interest me as a citizen and as a person, as toxic chemicals are still all around us and the fight is just beginning.
I thought I would move on personally and professionally, seeing that there are a lot of other unresolved issues out there that need a lot of attention. However, when a friend asked me to look into glyphosate, I didn’t exactly jump for joy about it immediately, but I did eventually jump. Now, after reading through the literature and understanding the situation as it now stands, I do not see how I cannot do this film.
We have been using glyphosate for over 40 years now, and we simply do not know enough about this chemical in any way to say that it doesn’t hurt us. There are a lot of companies that use glyphosate at this point in the world, so lets stop pinning all of the blame on Monsanto (patent expired in 2000), even though they certainly still manufacture it and sell it. It is the active ingredient in the most widely used herbicide on this planet, and the trade name is Roundup. Have you ever used it? You may or may not have. Have you ever eaten it? Same thing, you may or may not have. The problem is that you may have unwittingly eaten it as a GMO in a corn chip, or you may have had it on your skin while playing golf or rolling around with your kids on your lawn.
That’s where this film comes in. Just like most evidence produced by a company these days, it can sometimes be erroneous. With one of the most disturbing companies in the world, and most hated, it is easy to see why we would feel that way. I’m still baffled if they have such amazing technologies, and they are fantastic in so many ways (GMOs) why are they not screaming to the heavens about all of these amazing properties? It is the strangest marketing strategy I have ever seen in my entire life, and I’m in the movie business. They love their products, say that they’re saving the world, but do not want anyone to know about it. Right there, on the surface, just from that perspective, you can feel the reason why they don’t, and I don’t need to explain it.

So, I decided to tell the story about glyphosate, as it is designed to kill the bacteria inside of weeds all across the planet. Roundup also contains a number of nasty additional chemicals that help to dissolve the surface of a plant to increase effectiveness, which are chemicals that are often dismissed. And lets make no mistake, we are not plants, so the companies do not need to draw up a lot of parallels, even though they certainly still try to. However, our bacteria that is a necessary part of life for us, outnumber our cells 10 to 1. Think about that for a second. The bacteria that makes up our bodies outnumber our cells 10 to 1, and they think that an herbicide will not kill any of that bacteria inside of us, as if a chemical can make a distinction between the two.
That is where this film comes in, as we have to take a stand against this chemical or we will have to live with it for another 15 years. The EPA has it up for review next year, and unless we put the pressure on, who knows what we will be in store for next.
If the current trends continue, our autism rates will be 1 in ever 2 children by 2034, Crohn’s disease and other intestinal ailments have skyrocketed (where we have a lot of bacteria), and nearly all GMO foods have it inside of every single plant. We shouldn’t ask our kids to eat herbicides, that is fundamental, but we also know that glyphosate is found in breast milk.
It is time to take a stand, and to help our film “A New Resistance” through our crowd funding campaign today! You can DONATE at this link right now www.indiegogo.com/projects/a-new-resistance/x/533532. Also, we will be giving this film away for free online next year to coincide with the push by all of the other groups working together to make the world free of this horrific chemical!
Please help us today, because we are all in this together and with you help we can free ourselves from this chemical forever! This is our time and we must resist this chemical at all cost!
We’re all in this one together!
