Dr. and Steve Newport share the story of Steve’s early onset Alzheimer’s, diagnosed at the age of 53.
Steve had a normal MRI, ruling out vascular dementia and stroke. In this video, Dr. Newport shares the story of Steve’s rapid decline, deteriorating so much that he did not qualify for a clinical trial for Alzheimer’s treatment. Through her own investigation, she learned of research into links between Alzheimer’s and inhibited glucose uptake in the brain, essentially brain starvation, and experiments with using ketone bodies as an alternate fuel source. This can be provided easily through diet by eating Coconut oil and other medium chain triglycerides.
It is clear from the video that Steve had been suffering from significant impairment, and still has trouble speaking, and finding the right words. However, he can clearly, though sometimes slowly communicate and is obviously following the context of the discussion.
…….
Dr. Newport recalls how it took only 3 hours to see the change in Steve after she first gave him 2 tablespoons of coconut oil with breakfast, and by the 4th or 5th day they saw a dramatic improvement in Steve’s personality. Her husband now takes 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, 3 times per day, plus other medium chain triglycerides.
Dr. Newport’s blog is here. This is a 6 part video interview.
