If you haven’t heard of Farmageddon The Movie I suggest you stop what you’re doing, click on the link and watch the trailer. It’s just that important.
On the Facebook fan page, Farmageddon is described as, “a documentary about the escalating fight for food rights in America.” I’m sure you’ve all heard about farmers being arrested and having their farms raided for producing raw milk and other organic products – this is their story.
The larger context is the unfolding campaign to protect and preserve the rights of the individual (you) to freely choose what they eat, and to maintain access to healthy, nutritious, unadulterated food. From family farms to personal gardens, a new onslaught of legislation seeks to limit personal choice to our most fundamental requirement for existence – our food. In response, local producers, communities and citizen’s groups across the country are starting to enact ‘food sovereignty’ legislation and forming legal defense funds to protect our heritage of food freedom. The Farmageddon site has a great resource page with ideas and contact information.
With all the toxic gunk allowed into the food system by government bureaucracies, do we really need to be protected from eating natural, organic food that humans have been eating for thousands and thousands of years? Are raids on farmers an effort to protect our health, or government support of some corporate agribusiness?
And hey come on, do we really need armed raids on farmers producing raw milk? Seriously, there’s no better way to approach that problem?
